Kadi + Myka's Take on Wellness

Yesterday, during our weekly meeting we chatted about what wellness means to us. What we're drawn to in order to make ourselves feel good and also what we turn away from. A good nights sleep, laughter and plenty of water, yes. Toxic positivity and people who say one thing, but then do something else, no.This space is filled with people telling us what to do - what to eat, what supplements to take, how to think, what workouts to do. Often times not doing any of it themselves. It can be challenging to navigate sometimes, however, at the end of the day all that matters is what works for you.

Myka's Fave New Beauty Finds

Fall is my favorite time of year. The crispness in the air, the changing leaves (yes, even here in LA!) and the darkening evenings ushering me to bed by 9. This slow transition towards Winter invites us to slow down after the busyness of summer and prepare ourselves for the slower days ahead. It’s also my favorite time of year to assess my beauty routine and double down on all things moisture before the challenges of dry winter skin and hair set in. In addition to doubling down on moisture, I’m really paying attention to streamlining and finding products that do double duty.

Facing Fears and Leaps of Faith

The past year and a half has obviously been like nothing any of us have ever experienced. We have been surrounded by so much fear- fear of falling ill, of losing our jobs, our homes, our connections with friends and family.Though I’ve been fortunate to still connect with people throughout this time, what I needed most was a reconnection with myself and my own body- my version of wellness, or better yet, being well.

BREATHE.

A beautiful and peaceful start to another year of LIFE. A few months ago, like many others, I began to feel like the walls were closing in on me. My body was in incredible pain from standing 12 hours a day, and my anxiety was sky high- a by product of working through the pandemic and not given the option of socially distancing, as there is just no way to paint hair without physical touch, close contact, and a heavy exchange of energy. While clients for the most part have been phenomenal regarding our measures to keep everyone safe, each time I encountered resistance I would feel overwhelmed with panic. I would sit with Myka and our bookkeepers reviewing our budgets and goals, and wanted nothing more sometimes than to just scream at the pace and pressure of it all.
