How to Achieve Low-Maintenance Hair

In keeping with our January theme of simplifying, Hector and I have been doubling down on this vibe with the clients that we share, who’ve come in requesting a big change. When Joie came back to us after many months of living overseas, she was ready for a fresh start. She also knew that life may take her away again for an extended period, and this time she wanted to be prepared so that her hair could go the distance.

Kadi's Approach To An Iconic Hair Color

With Julia, as with all my redheads, no two appointments are ever the same, and coloring her hair all these years has really taught me the importance of thinking outside of the box with my formulations, and always leaving room for things to unfold organically as I paint, because that’s usually where the magic occurs. As a colorist, redheads keep your formulating skills sharp, as there is always a balance to strike of when (and where) to hold back and practice restraint in the formula, and when to just go for it and add pops of copper, gold, or auburn. Whether soft and romantic, or bright and electric, it takes a special confidence (unless you’re one of the lucky 1 to 2 % born with it) to pull it off.

Community. Communication. Connection.

Last night, after 3 long years, we were finally able to again have our annual gathering and in-person patio chat in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.And what a special evening it was. As often stated, we view our atelier not as hair salon, but a space that is a ‘salon’ in the true sense of the word. A gathering place, a safe space to share and talk, openly and honestly, and sometimes that means having hard conversations.

I am constantly looking for ways to simplify and create more space in my life. I think we can all identify with the feeling of overwhelm spending most of our time on our “have to” items and not enough on our “want to” things. Thus far I have decluttered my bathroom to include only the products I use and love, cleaned out closets and home and at work and gone through that massive pile of unopened mail and catalogs I know we all have. Over the years I have learned a few things that work best for me on how to simplify our lives so that we have more time left to focus on what we want to do.

New Year, New Resolutions

A NEW MONTH + NEW YEAR // When we sat down to talk about this month's theme, we circled around a few ideas. Do we want to focus on our relationship with time or discuss the ever-presence of change in our lives? Neither felt right, though, they felt too lofty. Ultimately, we landed on the message of simplification.Lately, we’ve been stretched thin. Over the last year, we’ve experienced both the joy and pain that comes with the alchemical process of...
