Kadi’s Holiday Wishlist

By Kadi

Growing up, my household never put a lot of emphasis on gift giving, and being from the island of Jamaica, as children we were never led to believe that if we wrote a list to some dude named Santa we would get everything that our heart desires. I mean, there were no chimneys. Was he going to slide down a coconut tree or something with his bag of goodies? Surely he’d at least get heatstroke in that thick red suit of his. Instead, we focused on some oft forgotten characters named Mary and Joseph and their baby that was born on December 25th. Then we moved to America, land of opportunity, Santa Claus, and the holiday wishlist.

All week long I had the assignment of creating my holiday wishlist for Highbrow Hippie. But life kept on getting in the way. By now most of our readers know that I’m a hair colorist at Serge Normant at John Frieda, and the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are some of the busiest of the year. My schedule has been packed getting all my clients ready for Hanukkah, Christmas and other holiday get togethers, and has left me little time to do anything for myself. When thinking of items or material things that I want, I’ve just been coming up empty. Standing on my feet for sometimes over 12 hours each day leaves me craving only one thing- rest. The LAST thing on my mind is an amazing coat, or a new coffee table book, or art for my home. Basically all I want for Christmas is some sleep. Once I get some rest, I can concentrate on what I really want more of in my life. Those things are not tangible items, but are worth so much more.

I wish for continued success. When I flourish in my career it gives me a sense of pride and peace that I’m living to my potential.
I wish for continued good health and a strong body and mind.
I wish for strength and faith that the universe is working in my favor.
Finally, I wish for more time. Time to finally finish my book that I’ve been working on for the past 3 years, more time to golf, time to spend with my friends and loved ones, and time in general for me to recharge. The way I see it, anything else is just the icing on the cake. Happy Holidays….

(P.S. I’ll be definitely drinking some of the champagne on Myka’s Holiday Wishlist, and then using the guest passes if she gets that Exhale membership. Why make a real list if I can just use all of the bestie’s stuff?? Duh.)
