Muses + Friends: Getting Ready with Alma Har'el

Hanging with my friend, director Alma Har'el is the best way to end the 2023 awards season.

I’ve been coloring Alma’s magnificent curls for over 15 years now, when we both were new to LA with just some big dreams in our heads. Even though she lives on literally the other side of the city, she’s loyal to the bone to Highbrow Hippie, so to get the chance to help style her hair when she attends the final night of awards season was a no brainer. I get pure and utter joy just being a spectator and a cheerleader.

Here’s the thing, the absolute truth- the last 2.5 months have been an absolute grind. They always are, no matter the year. Yes, we’re part of this bigger machine that’s connected to a few industries- entertainment, beauty, whatever, yada yada. And it’s an absolute privilege to do what we do, at the level we do. But, at the end of the day, though I often stupidly reject the word, we are artists that pour our all into thoughts and ideas, and to be able to create things and support each other to the finish line, well, it never gets old.

To do all this with people you consider friends?? Who are the same hardworking, no BS people you’ve known forever? Sh*t, it’s the honor of a lifetime.

That said, I haven’t had a day off in weeks and can’t WAIT to put my broken body back together again, starting tomorrow. Cheers to all the people behind the scenes, and the muses and friends that inspire us. I hope y’all have some solid downtime coming your way soon.
